The incident took place in New Haven County around 2 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 13, in Naugatuck.

According to the Naugatuck Police, officers were dispatched to a home on Park Avenue for a possible burglary.

During the investigation, responding officers learned that a woman, later identified as 21-year-old Ashley Schultz, of Naugatuck, in an intoxicated state, entered the home later claiming it to be a friend’s home, and began drinking alcohol from the refrigerator, police said.

The home sustained damage from Shultz’s forced entry including damaged doors and windows, police added.

Schultz fled prior to the arrival of police, but was located a short distance from the scene on foot, police said.

While trying to treat and speak with her, Shultz was uncooperative and combative with officers biting one and later biting a Naugatuck EMS/EMT during their efforts to treat her, police added.

Shultz was transported to an area hospital for evaluation due to her intoxicated state and arrested and charged with:

  • Burglary
  • Criminal mischief
  • Two counts of assault on public safety/ emergency services personnel

"None of the emergency personnel sustained serious injuries and we extend a thanks to our partners at Naugatuck EMS," the department said.

Schultz was held on a $150,000 court-set bond.
