CBS New York reported that the commission wants public feedback on the petition for a new area code in Nassau County.

The petition was due to a projection that there will not be any available 516 numbers by the end of 2023.

The commission said existing phone numbers won't be impacted by the change, the news station reported.

CBS New York said those who want to provide public comments must submit them online or by mail by the end of the year.
