Another shooting on Wethersfield Avenue - only days after a gruesome hit and run - has the neighborhood on edge.

“We’ve reported these things over and over and over again for years and nothing is done. ... You’ve stood by and allowed this area to go to hell.
“This sort of lawlessness would never be tolerated in the West End."

In a Facebook post directed to Mayor Bronin, City Council, and Police Chie Thody, Wethersfield neighbor Anne Goshdigian said the community is tired of waiting for help.

“We’ve reported these things over and over and over again for years and nothing is done,” Goshdigian said. “You’ve stood by and allowed this area to go to hell.

“This sort of lawlessness would never be tolerated in the West End,” she said.

On Friday, Aug. 14, a 23-year-old man was shot on Wethersfield Avenue He was shot in the leg and was alert and conscious when he was transported to the hospital, according to NBC Connecticut.

On Thursday, Aug. 13, a pedestrian was killed when a motor vehicle hit her on Wethersfield. Police have a suspect in the fatal crash.

In July, a triple shooting took place on Wethersfield.

In May, another man was shot dead on the same avenue.

In her open letter, Goshdigian said neighbors have informed the police about pimps, speeding, ATVs weaving around traffic, fights, and violence. The response they’ve gotten is unsatisfactory, she said.

"Do something to stop the carnage in our community caused by the incessant violation of traffic laws which are never—never!—enforced,” she said. “Tonight’s murder happened a mere 40 feet from my good friends’ home on Shultas Place.”

Goshdigian closed her letter by asking city leaders to tame the “wild west” - “No excuses!”
