The Chowder Pot of Hartford is set to close in the coming months, the business announced on Tuesday, Jan. 3.

The owners said the building is "showing its age" after many years of functioning as various restaurants.

"Due to the age, size, and constant amount of work needed to maintain this big old building combined with a new business wanting to make this property their home we have decided the right decision is to sell at this time," they said.

The business will continue to offer its soups in area supermarkets. The owners said they are still working to determine in what form the eatery may take in the future.

An official closing date has not yet been announced.

The owners also thanked customers for their years of support.

The comments section of the announcement is filled with former customers who expressed their sadness about the decision to close and shared memories of times they spent at the restaurant.

"I have been coming here since I was a kid," Natalie Swan-Arsenault wrote. "My husband and I toasted both our new home and engagement here. We were in for lunch a couple weeks ago and remarked how the food and the service was still so good. Will look forward to coming in one last time to the old location and wish you the best of luck in whatever the future holds for you."
