WESTPORT, Conn. Sean Obi and Hunter Eggers of Greenwich scored 15 points apiece Wednesday as the Greens Farms Academys boys basketball team extended its school-record winning streak to 12 games with a 56-53 road victory over Hyde of Woodstock.
Hyde (12-5) is ranked No. 1 in Class C of the New England Prep School Athletic Conference. Greens Farms (15-3) also knocked off Hamden Hall, ranked No. 2 in Class C, last week. The Dragons have not lost since a 58-48 setback to Rye Country Day on Jan. 5.
The Dragons cruised to a 30-18 halftime lead against Hyde. They extended the lead to 17 in the second half before Hyde mounted a rally. The hosts missed a contested dunk with 11 seconds that would have given them the lead, and Greenwichs Matt Tate converted both ends of a 1-and-1 at the foul line for the final margin. Hyde missed a 3-point shot as time expired.
A win against a boarding school is often a great win, Greens Farms coach Doug Scott said. These guys draw their talent from across the country. None of Hydes starters were from Connecticut.
Tate had six assists and seven points, while Obi added 21 rebounds and three blocks. Westports Brien Comey grabbed 10 rebounds and scored six points.
Greens Farms hosts St. Lukes at 6 p.m. Friday on Senior Night. It will honor Comey, Dariens Wills Rooney and Fairfields Will Pavlis.
