After meeting on campus, volunteers were divided into teams and sent to work on different projects around the area. Many of the groups braved wet weather and tackled outdoor projects. Volunteers cleaned-up Fairfield streets, a Southport park, and planted daffodils and made a pathway at the Fairfield Audubon.
One group planted a garden for Horizons and read books to the students, while other volunteers planted a vegetable garden for Operation Hope. In addition to the outside activities, groups made cookies and delivered them with notes to Operation Hope, snack bags were assembled and delivered to the Bridgeport Rescue Mission, and flowers were arranged and given to the patients at The Carolton Chronic and Convalescent Hospital.
A tradition of serving the community is an integral part of the school’s culture. The importance of the school’s motto, “We are judged by our deeds,” is demonstrated through the school-wide stewardship program, which provides age-appropriate opportunities for students to address the needs of others while learning about underlying social issues.
The school’s connection to the community is very important and it was wonderful to see so many parents and students supporting the Day of Service.
