GREENWICH, Conn. -- Connecticut Democrat U.S. Rep. Jim Himes (D-4th District) was the only member of the House of Representatives to vote against a bill giving U.S. Olympic and Paralympic medalists a tax break, according to The New York Times.

The bill is on the cusp of being signed into law by President Obama after passing the House 415 to 1 and clearing the Senate earlier this year, according to The New York Times.

Himes did not cast the vote in protest of the athletes or spectacle in Rio but with the stance that the tax breaks are imprudent at a time when money is tight and needed elsewhere, according to The New York Times.
