Greenwich RTM: Von Keyserling Voted Out; 73 New Members Voted In

GREENWICH, Conn. — The Greenwich Representative Town Meeting looks very different after Tuesday's election.

Nearly a third of the seats — a total of 73 — changed hands on the 230-member RTM after the election, according to unofficial results from the town of Greenwich and Greenwich Time.

And one notorious member of the RTM lost in the election: Christopher von Keyserling, who had served for 32 years. In January, von Keyserling was arrested on a charge of fourth-degree sexual assault after he groped a town employee at the Nathaniel Witherell nursing home, police said.

Von Keyserling, 72, called the female town worker "nothing but a bloodsucking lazy union employee" during an argument, and he placed his hand between her legs and pinched her in the groin area in December, according to the police arrest warrant.

He also said that in the new political world — referring to the election of Donald Trump — "I no longer have to be politically correct," according to the warrant.

Police said video footage from a surveillance camera on the day of the December incident is consistent with the sequence of events described by the complainant. He is awaiting trial.

The election of Trump pushed a number of new candidates — including a large number of women — to run for seats on the RTM. Some are members of the group Indivisible Greenwich.

Christopher Fountain, a conservative blogger, blasted that wave of candidates and urged residents to not vote for the women running for the RTM.

Fountain said the women would bring a liberal agenda and national politics to the RTM. Indivisible Greenwich slammed the blog post.

But in the end, 73 of the 79 first-time candidates won election to the 230-member RTM in Greenwich, according to Greenwich Time.
