Transformer Fire Closes Norwalk Roadway, Cuts Power, Police Say

A transformer exploded about around 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 21, on North Main Street, police said.

Police say North Main has reopened after being closed between Washington and Marshall streets.

The explosion was caused by an underground transformer fire that also caused a major power outage in downtown Norwalk, police said.

Norwalk firefighters and South Norwalk Electric Works crews are on the scene, police said.
