Christopher Groguhe, 18, of Westport, was arrested on Wednesday, April 24, following his release from Norwalk Hospital and transported to police headquarters where he was charged with assault, assault of a public safety officer, attempt to commit assault, interfering with an officer, and breach of peace, said the Westport Police Department.

The attacks took place around 10:30 a.m., Friday, April 19, when Westport officers responded to multiple calls about a man walking in his underwear without shoes on Post Road East, the department said.

One of the callers reported Groguhe had defecated on the sidewalk by Winslow Park, police said.

Officers located Groguhe on Myrtle Avenue in the area of Church Lane. The first responding officer approached him to check on his welfare and was immediately struck in the face and a struggle ensued, they added.

Additional officers arrived on the scene and attempted to subdue Groguhe, who actively resisted being taken into custody.

One officer was bitten during the incident. He was eventually taken into custody after a brief struggle and was transported to the hospital, police said.

The two injured officers were also transported to Norwalk Hospital for treatment.

Groguhe is being held on $150,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Norwalk Court May 8.
