Two Fairfield County parents were arrested for allegedly allowing juveniles to drink while at their home and then getting into a vehicle crash, police said.
Grace Gruber, 53, and Edward Gruber, 55 both of Monroe, were arrested on Wednesday, Dec. 11, and charged with permitting a minor to possess alcohol, said Monroe Police Department Lt. Stephen Corrone.
According to Corrone, around 10:30 p.m., on Oct. 5, the Monroe Police Department received a report motor vehicle crash into the residence of 59 Blanket Meadow Road.
After striking the home, the vehicle dropped off a stone wall into the driveway and burst in flames. The occupants were able to get out of the vehicle with minor injuries, police said.
The vehicle was occupied by four juveniles who had just left a house party located at 95 Blanket Meadow Road, Corrone said.
"Based upon the severity of the crash, the juvenile occupants and the recent departure from a house party at 95 Blanket Meadow Road, an investigation was opened to determine if underage drinking was taking place at the party," he said.
The results of the investigation found that Grace and Edward Gruber were allegedly reckless and negligent hosts, permitting minors in their care to illegally possess and consume alcohol on their property, Corrone said.
Both were released on a promise to appear ticket and are scheduled to appear in court on Thursday, Dec. 19.
