A pickup truck and some fertilizer were destroyed during a structure fire in Norwalk that sent one firefighter to the emergency room.

The fire took place around 9:27 a.m., Friday, July 19, at 320 Martin Luther King Drive at the Tough Lawn business, said Norwalk Fire Department Deputy Chief Todd Smith.

When firefighters arrived on the scene, they found a fire inside the garage with the cab of a pickup truck fully on fire, the department.

Next to the vehicle were pallets of fertilizer with pesticides.

The sprinkler system of the building activated and controlled the fire while firefighters entered and extinguished the fire, Smith said.

Overhaul operations were conducted and damage appears to be confined to the vehicle and the pallets of fertilizer/pesticide next to it.

One firefighter was sent to the emergency department for exposure to pesticides in smoke and was treated and released.

The Norwalk Fire Marshal Division is investigating the cause of the fire
