According to police, while on routine patrol, highway officers observed Chaojen Cheng, of Roslyn Heights, on Saturday, Jan. 25 at 6:20 a.m. operating a 2017 Nissan Pathfinder traveling eastbound on the Long Island Expressway at Exit 33 in Roslyn Heights failing to maintain its lane.

The officers activated their emergency lights and conducted a Vehicle and Traffic Law stop in front of 166 Old Powerhouse Road.

During the investigation, it was determined that Cheng emitted the odor of alcohol on his breath and had glassy eyes, police said.

Cheng's 10-year-old son was seated in the back of the vehicle, according to police. The child was released to the mother at scene, police said.

Cheng was placed under arrest without incident. No injuries were reported.

Chang was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated (child under 16-Leandra’s Law), endangering the welfare of a child, driving while intoxicated and several vehicle and traffic infractions.

He will be arraigned on Sunday, Jan. 26 at First District Court in Hempstead.
