James Maharg, 65, of Sherman, called state police Thursday, March, 21, to report a man who lived at the Church Road home in Sherman, had fallen and hit his head on a countertop, according to state police.

Arriving officers found the dead man inside the home and “due to several suspicious circumstances,” the Western District Crime Squad and the Danbury State’s Attorney office to respond to the scene, state police said.

After an extensive investigation, state police said they obtained a warrant for Maharg's arrest in connection with the death.

Maharg was charged with murder and tampering with physical evidence. He is being held on $2 million bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Friday, March 22 in Danbury.

Police did not identify the dead man and said that the arrest warrant was sealed for two weeks due to the continuing investigation.
