A man is facing DUI charges after police say he was involved in a crash in Darien.

Darien Police say they responded to the area of 257 Mansfield Avenue on the report of a minor one-vehicle accident on Thursday, May 9 around 1:30 a.m.

Further investigation revealed that the driver involved in the crash, identified as 21-year-old Peter Thunem of Darien, was not in need of medical attention but was unsteady on his feet.

Thunem allegedly told officers that he had just come from a local establishment and admitted to drinking alcohol.

Police say they also observed an alcoholic odor and asked Thunem to perform a series of field sobriety tests, which he did not pass.

Thunem was arrested, transported, processed and charged with operating under the influence and failure to drive right.

Police say Thunem’s BAC was measured at .211 around 2 a.m. and .207 around 2:30 a.m.

Thunem was released on $260 bond and is scheduled to appear in Stamford Court on Monday, May 20.
