An officer from the Greenwich Police Department on patrol at approximately 12:45 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 29, spotted local resident Maria Bello, 45, driving erratically on East Putnam Avenue between Strickland Road and Sinawoy Road, prompting a traffic stop.

During the subsequent traffic stop, the officer reported that he “immediately detected the strong, distinct odor of an alcoholic type beverage emanating from (Bello’s) breath.” Bello was ordered to exit her vehicle and proceeded to fail multiple Standardized Field Sobriety Tests.

Bello was arrested at the scene and charged with operating under the influence and cited for failing to obey a traffic control device and failure to maintain a proper lane. Following her processing, Bello was released at approximately 3:30 a.m. on Nov. 29 and scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on Thursday, Dec. 13 to answer the DUI charge.
