A man robbed the People's United Bank at 410 Greenwich Ave. near the downtown Greenwich train station at about 5 p.m., police said.

The suspect went up to a teller and implied he had a weapon but did not display it, police said. He fled with an undisclosed amount of cash, police said.

Despite earlier reports that the suspect had fired a gun at police, "No shots were fired," Police Lt. Kraig Gray said in an email.

Metro-North cut all power to trains at the station while police searched for the suspect, Metro-North spokeswoman Marjorie Anders said.

MTA police searched the tracks and two trains stopped at the station, Anders said.

The trains were stopped for about an hour in both directions. Even after trains resumed service at about 6 p.m., residual delays of about an hour occurred along the New Haven Line, Metro-North said.

The man, described as a short, heavy-set Hispanic man wearing a baseball hat and sunglasses, was not found, police said.

The police investigation of the bank robbery was continuing.
