Josephine Tomasello, 97, Of Greenwich

GREENWICH, Conn. – Josephine Helen Tomasello of Greenwich died Oct. 31, surrounded by her family. She was 97.

Born Jan. 22, 1915, in Greenwich, she was the daughter of Leonard and Angelina LaBruzza. Known as “Jay” to all her friends, Tomasello lived in Greenwich for her entire life. She was married to Nicholas V. Tomasello, who predeceased her in 1981.

Tomasello raised a family while operating a stationery store in the Chickahominy section of Greenwich. In her spare time, she enjoyed welcoming everyone to her home and dining table, preparing Italian meals and homemade pasta. She enjoyed her large, close-knit family.

She is survived by a daughter, Rose Marie (Joseph) Chiappetta, of Shelton, Conn.; two sons, Michael (Camille) Tomasello, of Stamford, and Leonard (Irene) Tomasello, of New Milford, Conn.; 10 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Marie Nenni; a sister-in-law, Josephine Labbruzzo, of Port Chester, N.Y.; and many nieces and nephews. Jay was pre-deceased by her sister, Millie Marijan, and brothers, Michael Labbruzzo and Dominick LaBruzza.

Visitation was held Monday at Castiglione Funeral Home in Greenwich. A Mass was celebrated Tuesday at St. Roch’s Church in Greenwich.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the John N, Schullinger Lectureship in Childhood Cancer, Babies & Children’s Hospital of New York, 3959 Broadway, New York, NY 10035, or Ovarian Cancer National Alliance , 901 E. Street NW, Suite 405, Washington, DC 20004.
