Connecticut Light & Power Warns of Phone Scam

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. – Fairfield County Connecticut Light & Power customers should be wary of telephone call scams, the utility announced Thursday.

In the scam, customers receive calls from people claiming to be from the utility and offer a $40 rebate. The “representative” then requests the customer’s CL&P account number and a Social Security number.

The utility is asking customers who receive calls like this not to provide any personal information and report the incident to local police.

“If you have any doubt regarding the authenticity of a phone call or visit from a person claiming to be a representative of CL&P, call customer service immediately … and ask the customer service representative to verify the call or visit,” the ultity says.

CL&P customer service can be reached at (800) 286-2000.
