Bridgeport resident George Jaiman, 70, has been sentenced to 14 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release, for trafficking machine guns. He was also ordered to pay a $1,000 fine and perform 100 hours of community service after pleading guilty to one count of unlawful possession of a machine gun in Hartford federal court.

Between June 2017 and April last year, Torrington resident Sean Dey manufactured machine guns, including AK-47-style and AR-style machine guns, suppressors, and other firearms.  U.S. Attorney John Durham said Dey entered into an agreement with Jaiman to sell machine guns, suppressors and firearms to third parties for profit.  Neither Dey nor Jaiman possessed a valid license to deal firearms.

On March 28 last year, Jaiman was found to be in possession of an AK-47 and AR-style machine guns with suppressors and no serial number. On April 3 last year, Dey transferred an AR-style machine gun to a customer for cash.

The investigation also determined that Jaiman’s son, Phillip, sold some of Dey’s machine guns that he received from his father. Those sales were to various individuals, including some convicted felons in the Bridgeport area.

Earlier this year,  Dey, 40, was sentenced to a term of 24 months in prison, followed by 12 months of home confinement and three years of supervised release after admitting to selling illegal weapons. He was also ordered to complete 100 hours of community service.

Jaiman was ordered to report to prison on May 22. His son pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful possession and transfer of a machine gun last week. He is currently awaiting sentencing.
