NORWALK, Conn. -- A group of Norwalk women has raised nearly $5,000 for the Center for Sexual Assault Crisis Counseling and Education following benefit performances of "The Vagina Monologues."

V-Day Norwalk raised $4,886 through the three performances of "The Vagina Monologues" at The Carriage House Arts Center of Norwalk. V-Day Norwalk has donated about $4,397 from ticket sales and private donations to The Center for Sexual Assault Crisis Counseling and Education.

The center provides free, 24-hour confidential help to women, men and children who have experienced sexual assault. The Center also offers age-appropriate personal safety classes for children ages 4-18 to reduce their risk of becoming a victim, as well as education/awareness programs for the community at large, according to a press release. The Center supports the towns of Darien, Greenwich, New Canaan, Norwalk, Stamford, Weston, Westport and Wilton.

About $488 has gone to V-Day, "a global activist movement to end violence against women and girls and a catalyst for promoting creative events to boost awareness, raise funds and invigorate the spirit of anti-violence groups," according to the release.

The Cast of the Vagina Monologues included Jessica Buchanan, Coral Strother, Siobhan O’Sullivan, Di Longo, Janis Stahlhut, Brianna Gaddy, Mercedes Bassani, Erica Eveiti, Elayne Mordoff, Jacqueline Naudet and Diane Lauricella. The shows were directed by Terry Polvay and assistant director Claire Kenny.
