GREENWICH, Conn. – At its annual meeting, Greenwich-based Family Centers honored a longtime board member whose contributions were instrumental in its growth and a local business leader for his dedication to helping families in need.

Darien resident Kip Koons and Toyota of Stamford General Manager Brandon Campbell were honored by Family Centers, a private, nonprofit organization offering education, health and human services to children, adults and families in Fairfield County.

During his tenure on the board of directors, Koons’ guidance and advice has been a driving force behind Family Centers’ continuous growth over the past 25 years. An expert in the field of mergers and acquisitions, he has helped facilitate the six mergers that have made Family Centers the diverse and trusted community resource it is today. Koons has also served on the agency’s nominating, finance /investment and various program committees, all the while raising funds for and awareness of Family Centers.

To thank him for his many contributions to the agency, Family Centers presented Koons with the 2013 Helen Gratz Rockefeller Outstanding Volunteerism Award.  The award is presented annually to a member of the Family Centers Board of Directors, and is the agency’s highest honor for volunteer work.

“Kip has been part of the bulwark that has kept our agency strong and growing for the past 25 years,” said Joan Jan Dilenschneider, a former board chairman and past recipient of the award.  “His careful scrutiny and attention to detail has led to the successful outcomes we have experienced.”

Campbell was also named the 2013 Family Champion.  For the past several years, Campbell, of Stamford, has worked to ensure that Toyota of Stamford’s community outreach efforts benefit Family Centers’ most vulnerable populations. Whether he’s collecting holiday gifts for families in need or organizing fundraising events to create a preschool scholarship fund, Campbell has made it his mission to give back to the community in which he lives and works.

“Over the past three years, Brandon has secured more than $10,000 in gifts for families who would not have otherwise enjoyed a happy holiday season,” said Bob Arnold, president of Family Centers. “His boundless enthusiasm, creativity and unquestionable commitment to helping others is an inspiration. My hope is that it is contagious and that other members of the business community follow his lead.”

More than 2,400 professionals and trained volunteers work together at Family Centers to provide a wide range of responsive, innovative programs.

A United Way, Community Fund of Darien and New Canaan Community Foundation partner agency, Family Centers is a member of the Connecticut Council of Family Service Agencies and the Alliance for Children and Families and is accredited by the Council on Accreditation and the National Association for the Education of Young Children.
