GREENWICH, Conn. -- Entrepreneurs can learn what it takes to start a business in a five-week series at the Greenwich Library.
The series, "Simple Steps for Starting Your Business" will start Sept. 15 and run from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays. It will cover everything from planning to funding. The sessions will be conducted in the library's meeting room, 101 W. Putnam Ave., unless otherwise indicated.
This step-by-step program to starting a business is conducted by a team of professionals from the SCORE Norwalk Chapter.
The five sessions are:
Tuesday, Sept. 15, Self-Assessment/Business Plan: Learn about the risk and reward of starting a business in today's competitive marketplace. The traits of successful entrepreneurs will be discussed for the purpose of assessing one'e innate and acquired ability to start and manage a successful business. The session also will focus on structuring a dynamic plan.
Tuesday, Sept. 22, Marketing Strategy & Research: Learn the importance of market research and planning to start-up and build a competitive and successful business. Emphasis will be on sound market positioning of a small business's products or services within its target market that will enhance profitable sales and success.
Tuesday, Sept. 29, Website & Social Media Marketing: This session focuses on the current online marketing tools available for start-up and operating businesses. Proven providers of website design/marketing programs and of social media marketing tools will help navigate your business to the proper balance of a website and social media marketing strategies for your business.
Tuesday, Oct. 6, Financial Reporting & Planning: This presentation reviews a business's key financial statements and walks the participants through the development of a comprehensive financial plan. The importance of understanding the key financial drivers of the business will be a centerpiece of the discussion.
Thursday, Oct. 15, Funding Sources/Conversation with Entrepreneurs: Learn the funding structure required for start-up businesses today, including a presentation from lending sources specializing in start-up and small businesses. Includes discussion and question-and-answer session.
