A 24-year-old from Greenwich who made her name as a social media star, is stepping away to take a “needed break from the negativity,” amid concerns for her health.
Eugenia Cooney recently raised concern from her fans due to her diminishing weight and extremely thin frame. Questions about her health ran rampant around the Internet during a brief hiatus from social media, prompting her to respond.
“Hey guys! I've been offline for a while and I'm sooo sorry if I worried anyone!,” she posted on Twitter late in January. “That was not my intention at all. I've just been taken a much-needed break from the negativity and having some positive time offline. I'll be back soon! :)”
Cooney was back over the weekend, posting a picture of herself along with a caption, “Hi guys! I appreciate the concern. I’m taking a break from social media and voluntarily working on this with my doctor privately. Please respect that.”
Cooney has more than a million YouTube subscribers, 500,000 Instagram followers and nearly 150,000 Twitter followers. Police have been repeatedly notified by concerned fans asking them to do a welfare check on her. The rash of concern reached a fever pitch, prompting the Greenwich Police Department to jump in the middle.
“The Greenwich Police Department is aware of the online communities concerns for Eugenia, but please respect her privacy and wishes,” they posted on Twitter. “Please consider her last Twitter posts as her current statement on her intentions regarding her public life. Thank You.”
