Mount Vernon Public Library Offering Summer Reading Events In August

MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. -- The Mount Vernon Public Library will offer various summer reading programs to keep kids busy during August. They include:

Frogs, Bugs and Animal Shows

Tuesday, Aug. 2 from 2-3 p.m. in the Children's Room. Learn about animals and how they each have an important role and unique athletic ability. Pet and touch frogs, toads, bugs, bunnies, guinea pigs, mice and more. 

Traveling Lantern Theatre Company

Thursday, Aug. 11 at 2 p.m. in the Children's Room. The theater company will present, "Vladimir Goes for Gold," which tells the story of young athlete Vladimir Cashewninski, champion badminton player and sole athlete from the People's Republic of Insurgistan, who goes on an adventure to the first Olympic Games in Greece. For pre-K through eighth grade. 

How to Make Your Own Ice Cream 

Saturday, Aug. 13 from 11 a.m. to noon in the Grace Greene Baker Community Room. Presented by The Future Leaders Stem Program. For kids ages 5-12 with a limit of 10 children. Click here to register

Pop-Up Book Cover Workshop

Tuesday, Aug. 23 from 3-5 p.m. in the Children's Room. Learn the skills needed to write a story and create a pop-up book cover. Word games and poetry will be used to create the story. No skills are required and all materials will be provided. For grades 3-6 with a limit of 12 children. Registration required. 

Teddy Bear Picnic 

Friday, Aug. 26 at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. in the Children's Room. Bring a teddy bear or other stuffed animal friend and join Ms. Susi for a picnic with snacks, stories, sing-alongs and crafts all about bears. Limited to 20 children per session. For ages 2 1/2 to 5. Registration required.
