Currently, Democrat Kim Fawcett is the state representative for the 133rd District.
“Through the years, I have had the pleasure of representing the people of Faifield through service on the League of Women Voters’ Board of Directors, PTA, Representative Town Meeting and now the Board of Selectmen,” McCarthy Vahey said.
“This experience has given me both knowledge of and a passion for the unique needs of our community. I am running for state representative so that I can be a strong advocate in Hartford for a government that is responsible, accountable, and fair? and most importantly, respectful and responsive to the people of Fairfield.”
McCarthy Vahey serves as co-chair of the Fairfield Cares Community Coalition, which works to prevent suicide and alcohol and substance abuse among young people. She helped to lead a communitywide Conversation on Diversity and Tolerance, and worked with the Bike and Pedestrian Coalition to create a plan to make Fairfield streets safer for pedestrians and bicyclists.
Also, McCarthy Vahey said she has met and worked with many of the volunteers and groups that are active in Fairfield and said she looks forward to a continued open door relationship with all.
A graduate of Notre Dame with a major in economics and government and the University of Washington with a master’s degree in social work, McCarthy Vahey lives in Fairfield with her husband, Brian, and three children: Emma, 15, Daniel, 11, and Gabriel, 7.
Fawcett has represented Fairfield in the State House since 2006. She is the assistant majority leader and serves as vice chair on the Committee on Children; transportation bonding hcair for the Finance, Revenue & Bonding Committee; and on the Energy & Technology Committee.
