Fire officials are investigating after a tractor-trailer car carrier became fully engulfed in flames on northbound Interstate 95 in Norwalk.
Members of the Norwalk Fire Department responded Saturday, May 4 at around 2:30 p.m. to find fires on the truck with the cab as well as three vehicles on the carrier.
A second fire engine and tankers from Darien and Norton Heights Fire Department were called to the scene.
In addition, the Norwalk Fire Department Truck Company 1, which is a bucket ladder company used to access the vehicles on the upper level of the carrier, also responded, the Norwalk Fire Department said.
I-95 was shut down northbound to allow access for fire department vehicles and shuttling of water with the tankers to the scene allowing the departed department to enter the highway and travel in the opposite direction safely.
The highway reopened at 4 p.m.
There were no reported injuries, said the Norwalk FD.
