Maryann Kibbe-Stanisz, 70, of Oakville, was found around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday after Watertown Officers responded to her home for a well-being check after family members reported not hearing from her, said Detective Mark Conway with the Watertown Police.
Officers arrived and saw a woman down inside the house, and after forcing entry, they found Kibbe-Stanisz on the ground dead, and added that she may have been assaulted, and had injuries to her head, he said.
"We have information that the victim recently spoke to a handyman about tree work and odd jobs around the house. This handyman is not a suspect but we would like to talk to him," Conway said. "Please call us."
The department is currently awaiting autopsy and investigation from the medical examiner's office regarding a cause of death and manner of death.
"We believe that Mrs. Kibbe was assaulted inside of her residence on or around Jan. 8," Conway said.
Kibbe-Stanisz's gray Chrysler PT Cruiser was believed to have been taken from the driveway.
The vehicle was found in the parking lot next to Lit Ultra Lounge, 483 West Main St., in Waterbury in the area of downtown Waterbury. The keys were not found at the scene.
The department is asking anyone in the area who may have seen the PT Cruiser or may have video surveillance of the area, please contact the authorities.
