Man Shot Twice In Vehicle Dies During Crash On Way To Hospital, Bridgeport Police Say

A 21-year-old man who was shot in the head and neck while sitting in a vehicle died after on the way to the hospital during a crash, said the Bridgeport Police.

The incident took place around 9:21 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 8, when two gunshots were fired on Gem Avenue near Whitney Avenue, said Terron Jones, spokesman for the Bridgeport Police Department.

A 21-year-old man was shot in the head and neck while seated in a vehicle, and the vehicle's driver fled the scene, attempting to take the victim to the hospital, Jones said. 

The driver entered Route 25 southbound and was involved in a motor vehicle accident at the on-ramp to I-95 northbound. The driver was not injured, Jones said.

The passenger who was shot was transported by medics to Bridgeport Hospital where he was pronounced dead. 

Bridgeport detectives are processing a crime scene on Gem Avenue and the Connecticut State Police are investigating the motor vehicle accident, Jones said.

The motive for the shooting is undetermined at this time.
