A 53-year-old man is in custody after he allegedly made a threatening social media comment regarding a Puerto Rican festival in the area.

Police launched an investigation after the threat was posted Wednesday, Aug. 7 on Facebook in response to a television station's post about the festival, which runs Saturday, Aug. 10 from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. on the New Haven green.

The comment said the festival was an example of why "we need 30-round magazines."

The suspect, Jeffrey Hanson of Orange, Connecticut, was arrested overnight Saturday and charged with second-degree breach of peace.

He is being held on a $50,000 bond and is due in court on Monday, Aug. 12.

“I commend the New Haven Police Department for its quick response to this particularly troubling incident, and for its prompt action to identify the person or persons accountable and apprehend a suspect in the case," New Haven Mayor Toni Harp said in a statement.
