Fewer Accidents, DUIs Over Thanksgiving, Connecticut State Police Say

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- The number of car accidents, drunken driving arrests and hazardous moving violations declined over the Thanksgiving holiday this year, Connecticut State Police said.

But speeding arrests and seat belt violations increased over 2014, state police said.

The final Connecticut State Police holiday statistics for the Thanksgiving Holiday operation, from 12:01 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 25, to 11:59 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 29, are:

  • Speeding arrests: 1,204
  • Seat belt violations: 432
  • Other Hazardous Moving Violations, (unsafe lane change, following too closely, cellphone usage, texting, failure to signal, etc.): 3,160
  • DUI arrests: 46
  • Accidents investigated: 513
  • Accidents with injury: 59
  • Fatalities: 1

In 2014, the statistics for the Thanksgiving holiday were as follows:

  • Speeding: 1,106
  • Seatbelt violations: 314
  • Hazardous moving violations: 3,538
  • DUI arrests: 52
  • Accidents investigated: 934
  • Accidents with injury: 97
  • Fatalities: 1
