FAIRFIELD, Conn. — A Fairfield driver was arrested Saturday after he rear-ended another car and flipped his car onto a median on Black Rock Turnpike, police said.

Jack Mcmahon, 23, of Mill Hill Lane, was charged with driving under the influence and following too closely in the 4:11 p.m. incident, which was caught on surveillance video at a neighboring storefront, police said.

Police say Mcmahon appeared to be speeding northbound on Black Rock Turnpike near the intersection with Tunxis Hill Road, when he hit a car waiting at the stop light. That car was pushed into the car in front of it and Mcmahon’s car flipped onto its roof, police said.

Mcmahon was transported to St. Vincent’s Medical Center with minor injuries, police said. The driver and passenger of the middle vehicle were transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital with minor neck injuries, police said.

Officer found a loose Xanax pill in Mcmahon’s car, police said. Mcmahon told officers he sometimes took Xanax for anxiety, though he did not have a prescription, police said.

He was released on a promise to appear in court on July 26, police said.
