Hector Ovidio Diaz Garrido, a citizen of Guatemala last known to live in Norwalk, has been sentenced in Bridgeport district court to 21 months in prison after pleading guilty to reentry of a removed alien.
U.S. Attorney John Durham said that Diaz Garrido, 41, who has never had legal status in the country, was deported from the U.S. to Guatemala in June 2011 following a March 2010 conviction for assaulting a police officer.
In April 2012, Diaz Garrido was caught by U.S. Border Patrol officers in Weslaco, Texas, his prior order of removal was reinstated and he was deported back to Guatemala.
Using the name “Jimy Diaz” in November 2014, Diaz Garrido was arrested by police in Norwalk and charged with operating under the influence of alcohol. In March the following year, Diaz Garrido, again using his pseudonym, was arrested for operating a motor vehicle while under suspension.
Durham said that in November last year, fingerprint analysis confirmed Diaz Garrido’s identity after he was busted for failing to appear in court three separate times. He pleaded guilty to his latest crime on Feb. 22. It is unclear if Diaz Garrido will face deportation upon his release from prison.
