Covid-19: CT Sees New Increase In Cases, Infection Rate; Latest Breakdown By County, Community

The daily positive COVID-19 infection rate in Connecticut is approaching 3 percent, though the number of patients hospitalized with the virus dipped slightly, according to the latest data from the state.

There were 18,273 COVID-19 tests administered in Connecticut on Monday, July 26, resulting in 488 confirmed positive cases for a 2.67 percent positive infection rate, up from 2.27 percent the day earlier.

Three COVID-19 patients were dispatched from Connecticut hospitals, bringing the total to 105 being treated for the virus in state hospitals, still up more than 30 over the weekend.

Since the pandemic began in March 2020, there have been more than 8,275 COVID-19 fatalities in Connecticut out of 322,561 confirmed cases of the virus.

According to the latest data from the state Department of Health, there have now been 2,309,139 first COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in Connecticut, with 2,126,040 completing the vaccination process.

The Delta variant of COVID-19 continues to be the dominant strain in Connecticut, now accounting for approximately 80 percent of all new infections, officials noted.

The latest breakdown of confirmed and probable COVID-19 cases in Connecticut, by county, according to the state Department of Health on Tuesday, July 27:

Fairfield: 101,256 (10,734 per 100,000 residents);
New Haven: 93,208 (10,905);
Hartford: 85,494 (9,588);
New London: 22,859 (8,619);
Litchfield: 14,808 (8,211);
Middlesex: 13,009 (8,009);
Windham: 11,048 (9,460);
Tolland: 9,760 (6,476).
