Cancer Prescription Drugs Much More Expensive In U.S. Than In Europe

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. — New research from the University of Liverpool found that the cost of certain types of cancer prescriptions was much higher in the United States than Europe, according to a Huffington Post article.

Tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs), pills with fewer side effects than chemotherapy treatments, can cost up to 600 times the European price, according to the study.

Pharmacologist Andrew Hill found that European TKI prices range from over $150 to $4,000 per person, compared to American prices of $75,000 to $100,000 per person, reported the Huffington Post.

Hill was to present his research in Vienna this week for the European Cancer Congress.
