SOUTHPORT, Conn. – Registration is now open for the Pequot Library’s summer half-day or full-day art, history and culture workshops for kids of all ages in Southport.
"Medieval Arts Workshop" for ages 9-12 will be from 9 a.m. to noon Monday, June 20 through Thursday, June 23. At this workshop, young people will experience cursive writing through art and literature. They will experiment with calligraphy, examine the library’s authentic illuminated manuscripts from the Medieval Ages and learn about their place in history. The event is led by Elizabeth Beaudin, formerly of Yale University Library and Yale Ph.D. in Medieval Spanish literature. Attendees will make costume pieces from the period and design their own coat of arms.
The youth also will explore Shakespeare's play, “A Midsummer Night's Dream,” through a fun and interactive presentation by Jo Anne Parady, former teaching artist for Shakespeare on the Sound and longtime member of the Theatre Artists' Workshop of Connecticut.
The workshop's cost is $150 for Friends of Pequot Library and $175 for nonmembers.
