Work Of Southport Cartoonist Featured In Wilton Library Exhibit

WILTON, Conn. -- An art exhibit comprised of cartoons is coming to the Wilton Library with an opening event on Friday, Oct. 14.

The reception will take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and is free and open to the public. 

The cartoonists who will be on display during the exhibition are from the Connecticut Chapter of the National Cartoonists Society. Items on display are all original and were prepared for and displayed in newspapers, greeting cards, licensing, children’s books and magazines, among other media.

The cartoonists on display will include: Chance Browne of Wilton, Mort Walker of Wilton, Greg Walker of Wilton, Brian Walker of Wilton, Mary Anne Case of New Canaan, Jerry Dumas of Greenwich, Bob Englehart of Middletown, Dick Hodgins of Wilton, Bill Janocha of Stamford, Sean Kelly of Southport, Maria Scrivan of Stamford and Rick Stromoski of Suffield. 

“We’re always looking for fresh ideas for our monthly art exhibitions. We’ve never had a full exhibition of cartoonists, so this is a first and we’re happy to have the opportunity to show this genre of work by such an extremely talented group, ” said Ed MacEwen, Wilton Library’s volunteer art chairman. 

The exhibition runs through Friday, Nov. 11. Library hours are as follows:

  • Mondays through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Fridays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m.
