Fiat Chrysler Fined Record $105M For Safety Lapses

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Fiat Chrysler will pay $105 million in fines and penalties to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration  for improper execution of safety recalls, according to Forbes. 

Fiat Chrysler will pay $105 million in fines for failing to recall vehicles in a timely manner and will have to buy back up to 500,000 vehicles, including some Ram pickup trucks.

The fine, which is the largest ever assessed by the NHTSA, was agreed upon following an investigation that revealed 23 problems impacting 11 million vehicles that Fiat Chrysler failed to recall in a timely manner. The company will also have to buy back approximately 500,000 vehicles, including Ram pickup trucks that have defective suspension parts, Forbes reported.
