DARIEN, Conn. – Hindley School student Sincere Francois received the surprise of the year when his mother, Army Spc. Crystal Merice, appeared at his Darien school’s Veterans Day celebration on Friday, Nov. 7, reports Darien News.
Merice had just spent a year in Afghanistan and wasn't supposed to be home until the day before Thanksgiving, but she was able to fly in early from Texas, the Darien News reported.
With the help of Merice’s mother and the school, mother and son were brought together during a special reunion when Merice was announced as a “surprise veteran” at the event, according to the Darien News.
