Middlesex Middle School Students Salute Veterans In Darien

Darien, Conn. – The students at Middlesex Middle School honored those who have served in the military with ceremonies marking Veterans Day this week.

The school welcomed veterans and active servicemen and servicewomen from Desert Storm, the Gulf War, Afghanistan, the Iraq War, Vietnam, and the Cold War.

The veterans spoke to a group of eighth grade students about their experiences in the military, camaraderie with fellow soldiers, and their pride in serving on behalf of the country.

Speakers included former Middlesex student and Navy pilot Chris Pintauro, Darien residents and active Navy reservists SueAnn Schorr and Craig Schorr, teacher and Army veteran James Brochinsky, fellow Army vet Robert Byrne, Navy veteran Joe Gibaldi, and former Marine Christopher Munger.

Middlesex Middle Schools student participants were color guard Josiah Harris and Stephen Wood, the Camerata Singers, nine student readers who read "I Am an American," and musicians Thomas Brown, Veronica Mejias, and Justin Mossa, who closed the ceremony by playing “Taps.”
