A 64-year-old Wilton woman is facing numerous charges after police say she was involved in a crash while under the influence before being arrested for a second DUI later the same day.

Wilton Police say they received a report that a woman the caller believed to be intoxicated operating a black 2012 Lexus sedan had struck a parked vehicle in the lot located at 5 River Road on Saturday, Sept. 7 around 2:30 p.m.

Officers arrived on the scene and made contact with the driver, identified as Ellen Needleman-O’neill, 64, of Wilton, police said.

During interviewing, police say Needleman-O’neill displayed signs of intoxication. She was then asked to participate in a series of field sobriety tests, which police say she did not pass.

Needleman-O’neill was arrested and transported to police headquarters. A search of her belongings revealed that she was in possession of a Tylenol/codeine pill, police say.

Needleman-O’neill also submitted to a chemical test that gave a BAC reading of .2261, according to police.

Needleman-O’neill was charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and possession of a controlled substance. She was later released on a promise to appear.

Police say Needleman-O’neill was pulled over on Old Farms Road later that day after leaving a local liquor store. She was found to still be under the influence, according to police, who also determined that she did not have a valid driver’s license, her vehicle was unregistered and her right to drive had been revoked just a few hours earlier.

Needleman-O’neill submitted to a breath test which police say resulted in a reading of .0928. She was arrested once again and faces these additional charges:

  • Driving under the influence of alcohol/drugs
  • Operating a motor vehicle while right to drive is revoked
  • Operating an unregistered motor vehicle
  • Driving without a license

Needleman-O’neill was released after posting a $230 bond and is scheduled to appear at Norwalk Superior Court on Tuesday, Sept. 17.
