Darien Police responded to the Darien Train Station on the report of three males trying to steal motorized scooters on Wednesday, Aug. 7 around 2:30 p.m.

The caller allegedly stated that the males were trying to force the scooters off the rack and were walking them down the sidewalk because they didn’t seem to have the keys, police say.

After receiving a description of the suspects, officers were able to approach the area and one of the suspects, identified as Tyler Barnett, 19, of Bridgeport, began to flee on foot, police say.

Barnett was intercepted by another officer and taken successfully into custody, police say. He initially gave officers the false name of “Tyler Alexander” before being correctly identified, according to police.

An off-duty officer working a third-party construction detail nearby responded and was able to take the other two suspects into custody. They were identified as Anjel Rodriguez, 20 and Jeffrey Pierre, 19, both of Stamford, police say.

The suspects were processed and charged with third-degree larceny and third-degree conspiracy to larceny. Pierre and Barnett were also charged with third-degree criminal attempt to larceny, and Barnett faces additional charges for interfering with an officer/investigation.

Barnett and Rodriguez were released after posting their respective bonds of $1,000 and $5,000. Pierre was later released on a $500 bond. The suspects are scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday, Aug. 21.
