Three 'Persons Of Interest' In Bridgeport Courthouse Shooting Arrested

Three "persons of interest" in a shooting outside of the Bridgeport Courthouse that injured four have been arrested on various charges.

According to Bridgeport Police Capt. Brian Fitzgerald, the three arrested are considered persons of interest in the incident included:

  • Asante Gaines, 23, was charged with breach of peace and interfering with police. Bond was set at $5,000.
  • Destine Calderon, 25, was charged with motor vehicle violations and interfering with police. Bond was set at $50,000.
  • Marquis Israel, 23, was charged with various drug offenses and interfering with police. Bond was set at $50,000.

All three men have bailed out.

The shooting took place around 12:15 p.m., Monday, Jan. 27, at the courthouse on Golden Hill Street, said Rowena White, director of communication for the City of Bridgeport.

According to White, at least one person fired more than 20 shots at individuals sitting in a vehicle idling in front of the courthouse. 

Three of those injured ran from the vehicle into the courthouse for cover. The fourth person, the driver of the vehicle, was also hit.

During a news conference Tuesday, Fitzgerald said two of the victims suffered serious injuries and two less serious injuries.

White said the victims were targeted and the event is not an active shooter situation.
