Darien High School administrators alerted the School Resource Officer of a photo that had been circulating and causing concern amongst students on Wednesday, March 27 around 10 a.m.
Darien Police Department detectives responded to the school to conduct further investigation. Police say the photo was determined to depict a DHS student holding what appeared to be a firearm.
An interview with both the student and their parent revealed that the firearm was a BB gun, according to detectives. They further stated to officers that the image was not meant to cause offense or have a threatening nature.
Police say the photo was initially sent to a small group of people and that no threats were made or implied.
Detectives later took possession of the BB gun and charged the juvenile suspect with breach of peace.
