Police Officer Hit By Car While Assisting Driver In Orange

A police officer was hit by a car while responding to a vehicle fiery in Connecticut.

Police said that a Town of Orange police officer was struck at approximately 10:06 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 10, when assisting with a  car fire on Mars Hill Road near Outback Steakhouse.

Upon arrival, the officer stopped behind the disabled vehicle in the center lane of southbound Marsh Hill Road and approached the vehicle on the driver's side when he was struck by another vehicle traveling southbound on Marsh Hill Road in the left turn lane.

The officer was transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital by paramedics with lower extremity injuries. The driver of the vehicle stayed on scene and is cooperating with the investigation, which is being conducted by the Connecticut State Police.

While police were investigating the incident, the roadway was closed. It reopened Friday morning. The investigation is ongoing, check Daily Voice for updates.
