In late August, the Darien Police Department investigated several overnight car burglaries, car thefts, and the overnight burglary of home on Noroton Avenue. During the home burglary, two laptop computers were stolen while the residents were asleep, police said.

On Aug. 30, Greenwich police arrested Kurt Vanzuuk, 35, in a car that had been stolen from Darien, police said.

The vehicle he was driving had been stolen from a home on Rocaton Road two weeks earlier, police said. The vehicle was unlocked and the keys were inside when it was stolen, police said.

During a search of the stolen vehicle, officers found clothing, personal checks, and two laptops, police said.

Darien detectives determined that the clothing was stolen from an unlocked vehicle at a different Noroton Avenue home on Aug. 26, and that the personal checks were stolen from an unlocked vehicle at a home on Tanglewood Road on Aug. 28.

The two laptops were the one that had been taken in the overnight burglary of the Noroton Avenue home on Aug. 21, police said.

On Sept. 28, Darien detectives applied for and were granted an arrest warrant for Vanzuuk in connection with the overnight residential and vehicle burglaries.

Arrangements were made to take Vanzuuk, who had been in the custody of the Department of Correction since August, to Stamford Superior Court to face the Darien charges.

On Monday, Nov. 20, Vanzuuk was arrested by Darien detectives and charged with second-degree burglary, two counts of third-degree burglary, third-degree larceny, fifth-degree larceny and sixth-degree larceny.

He was held on $40,000 bond and remained in the custody of the state. He will appear in again court for the Darien charges later in the month.
