A Darien man faces multiple charges after an argument over a missed flight allegedly turned violent, according to police.

Police were called to a Darien home on Friday, June 21 at 8:30 p.m. for an active domestic incident, said Darien Police.

Officers were told the caller had hung up the phone twice and was now not answering return calls, according to police.

When they arrived, the alleged victim was in the driveway flagging down responding officers, said police.

The victim said a suspect, later identified as 44-year-old Cody Zimmer, was in the house with two children, according to police.

When asked what happened, the victim said they had gotten into an argument and that Zimmer lost his temper and became physical with them, police said.

Officers went inside the residence to speak with Zimmer, who allegedly smelled of alcohol and seemed to have trouble standing, said police.

Zimmer reportedly told the officers he and the victim got in an argument over a missed flight, but denied the argument ever became physical, according to police.

The victim reportedly said Zimmer cursed at them, head-butted them, and pushed them to the ground, police said.

The victim told police they tried to call 911 but Zimmer took the phone from their hands, according to the report.

The victim was reportedly able to break free from Zimmer and attempted to run for the front door, said police.

Zimmer caught up to the victim, grabbed them by the hair, and dragged them up the stairs, police said.

Zimmer then struck the victim several times in the back of the head with a closed fist, and placed his hands around the victim’s neck and attempted to strangle them, police said.

The victim again tried to break free, but Zimmer allegedly grabbed the victim and stuck his finger in the victim's eye forcefully, according to police.

The victim was able to finally escape and ran out to the driveway, said Darien Police.

When asked again about the altercation becoming physical, Zimmer allegedly became agitated and changed his story several times, according to police.

Zimmer was arrested and charged with the following:

  • third-degree assault
  • third-degree strangulation
  • interfering with an emergency call
  • risk of injury to a minor

He was taken to Darien Police headquarters where he was processed, then at 12:45 a.m. was released after posting a $25,000 bond, according to Darien Police.

Zimmer was due in court Monday, June 24.
