A Tokeneke resident reported the delivery of an envelope containing suspicious white powder to his home Monday afternoon. Officials eventually determined that the nine people exposed to the substance were not in danger, but the Federal Bureau of Investigation was called to investigate as a precaution.
On Tuesday, a second resident called police to report a white powder had been delivered to a Rainbow Circle home Saturday. The residents believed it was a prank but called to report the incident after learning of the other case in the news, according to police reports.
Darien Police met with two girls and their parents Tuesday evening, and the girls confessed to sending the powder-filled envelopes. The juveniles told police that the powder was “a nontoxic food product,” police said.
“Outside agencies are still scheduled to conduct tests on the recovered substances for verification purposes,” Darien Police said in a press release.
The two homes were chosen randomly and had no connection to the two suspects. Darien Police believe that these are the only two incidents involving white powder, and no other residents are in danger, according to the press release. The case involving the two girls have been referred to juvenile court for possible charges.
