A mother from Darien is facing charges after police broke up an underage drinking party that allegedly occurred at her residence, police said.
Officers received a report of underage consumption of alcohol and responded to a Noroton Avenue residence on Saturday, Dec. 29 around 10:30 p.m. Upon arrival, officers observed several vehicles parked in the driveway of the residence.
They also noticed what appeared to be minors and alcoholic beverage containers in a small detached building next to the residence. The officers were met with an adult male who identified himself as the owner of the property.
The male stated that his son was having a birthday party, and he had taken their keys to ensure they don’t drive home. Still, officers initiated an investigation. The male stated that his wife, 47-year-old Brooke Rizzo, was inside the party with other party guests.
Officers started to approach the building when the male tried to enter beforehand, closing the door behind him. Officers then entered and directed the male to leave.
After entering the building, officers found Rizzo with other various underage attendees as well as several cases of alcoholic beverages. Rizzo stated that she was throwing a party for her son, that they all had safe rides home and that all of the guests’ parents were aware of their alcohol consumption. Several parents responded to pick up their children, stating that they had not been made aware of the alcohol present at the gathering.
Rizzo was placed under arrest and taken to police headquarters. She is charged with delivering alcohol to a minor and is scheduled to appear in Stamford court on Friday, Jan. 11.
