DARIEN, Conn. — A 43-year-old Darien man who first told police he rolled over his Jeep in an attempt to avoid a dog in the road admitted "you got me" as they arrested him on drunken-driving charges, police said.

At 11 p.m. July 19, officers were dispatched to Raymond Street and Littlebrook Road on a report of a rollover, police said.

There, officers found a 2013 black Jeep Wrangler lying on its roof in the roadway with its owner, Matthew Troy, 43, of 19 Great Hill Road, standing next to it, police said.

A female officer talked with with Troy, who responded several times by calling her “Sir.”

Officers determined that Troy was heading south on Raymond Street, when he lost control, hit a mailbox and flipped the Jeep, police said.

After complaining of minor bruising on his arms and wrists, he was treated at the scene by Post 53, but declined transport to a hospital, police said.

Troy told police that he was coming from the train station when a dog ran across the roadway. Troy was having trouble standing straight, police said, but he said that he was “fine” and was just shaken up from the accident.

When asked how much he had had to drink, Troy stated he had “two drinks in the city” before taking the train home, police said.

The male officer reported that Troy repeatedly called him “Ma’am.”

Troy took the standardized field sobriety testing, which he failed to perform successfully, police said. After being handcuffed and while being led to the patrol vehicle, Troy said, “You got me.”

He was charged with operating under the iInfluence of alcohol and/or drugs as well as failure to grant right of way.

Once at headquarters, Troy declined breathalyzer testing. At  1:10 a.m. he was released on $160 cash bond and his license seized for 24 hours. He was given a court date of July 31 in Stamford.
